Eradicating Japanese knotweed from Tithe Barn Lane Japanese knotweed screening

Japanese knotweed was discovered on phase one of a Linden Homes housing development. They required immediate eradication of the Japanese knotweed to allow their development to progress.

A quick solution was required as Japanese knotweed was not found on site until works commenced and was located in the first phase area of the build. Excavation and screening of the area was specified.

Using the Enviroscreen 2020 technology enabled Ebsford to retain all of the soil. This greatly reduced cost to the client for removal, as the only waste created was the knotweed rhizomes, which were disposed of as contaminated waste.

The screening process began with excavating the infested area, and passing the soil through the machine. The knotweed rhizomes were then hand-picked from the conveyor by a team of operatives. This resulted in three piles of soil for reinstatement back into the site.

Fines material was the first to be put back into the hole at a depth of 500mm. This was capped off with the medium and larger material to ensure no regrowth.

The eradicated area now forms the gardens of seven properties and has been monitored bi-monthly throughout the growing season to ensure no re-emergence has occurred.

We revisited the site in May 2016. The site was clear, with no regrowth whatsoever. The site manager was very pleased. By choosing Ebsford’s Enviroscreen solution our client saved circa £50,000, compared to alternative approaches.
