New Wetland Area Enhances Habitat and Reduces Flood Risk River Yarrow , Berm creation, woody debris, wetland creation

Ebsford were appointed to construct a new wetland area and tie it into the River Yarrow as part of a combined flood alleviation and habitat enhancement initiative. The project was comprised or a number of challenges including the requirement to excavate a precise (in terms of capacity, inlet and outlet levels), yet natural looking wetland area as well as re-profiling of the river banks and erosion control measures applied to an unpredictable river. As well as successfully overcoming these technical challenges, we were also delighted to realise an opportunity to engage local school children in an education visit and let them take a hands-on part in the scheme by sowing seeds for wild flowers and planting trees.
