A large business in the north east encountered a Japanese knotweed infestation issue at their site; Ebsford deployed multiple strategies in order to fully control the species for the client. Ebsford conducted clearance works and identified multiple infestation areas on site. During this site appraisal, a high voltage cable was also discovered, varying in depth from one to 1.5m; this meant that alternative excavation methods required consideration.
Ebsford utilised hand excavation methods to prevent undermining built structures as well as vacuum excavation – this meant that health and safety risks surrounding the high voltage cable were fully mitigated as well as the risk of damage to the cable itself.
All works were completed in just a few short weeks, including the installation of root barrier membrane along the site boundary to prevent a re-infestation of the site. Contaminated material was then removed from site to licensed landfill, with costs kept as low as possible for this control method. Ebsford also went the extra mile to seed the backfilled excavation area with grass and wildflower seed in order to restore the aesthetic of the area. Ebsford also provided an all-encompassing solution by treating the neighbouring Japanese knotweed also – this further mitigated the risk of a re-infestation on the client’s site.
Subsequently, the client was able to overcome their invasive species issue with the aid of Ebsford’s expertise and ability to act quickly to remove Japanese knotweed from site.
