This project as part of our CRT framework contract brought some unusual challenges but made for an interesting change to our more traditional canal dredging works in that it was situated indoors. Work to desilt a section of canal began inside the listed Transhipment Warehouse, a building of significant historical value with very limited access. The logistics of plant and equipment made for a challenging project but with a combination of the Truxor and a light excavator in this confined space, Ebsford sensitively moved 180m³ of silt from the canal bed to be taken off site without causing any damage to the listed structure and its surrounding fabrics.
The transhipment volunteer group were keen to be involved throughout the works and have taken care of this site over many years for future canal users to enjoy. Site Management, with help from the team offered some assistance with some of the voluntary work to stop damp damaging the buildings’ original stone walls. A real team effort to keep such a well-loved section of the canal in service.
“A note to thank Chris and his team for the job they did at the Warehouse. They were engaging and supportive of the Whaley Bridge Canal Group CIC, from the start. They are a real credit to the company and great ambassadors for you, showing a passion for the work and a love of our historic building. Thanks again and hope to work with you in the future.” Whaley Bridge Canal Group
